Interim Management
Do you need high-quality, short-term capacity to lead one of your service areas or introduce a change in working practices? I have over 15 years’ experience as a senior leader managing large and complex service areas, capital programmes, and staff teams of up to 170 people. I am accustomed to producing and delivering strategy documents, service planning and performance management.
Budget Management
- I have experience managing large and complex budgets. For example, I was responsible for the £55 million joint commissioning budget in Worcestershire, while my budget as Service Manager for Extended Services was £11.2 million per annum revenue and an average of £3.6 million capital.
- I have experience of formal contract negotiations (particularly in the NHS) and of both purchasing and procurement.
Managing and Coaching Staff
- I have managed both small and large teams and have considerable experience developing and supporting my staff using a coaching and mentoring approach. For example, I have built entire teams from scratch, drawing on individuals ‘at risk’ of redundancy and supporting them to utilise their transferable skills. Where this was not possible, I have supported staff to find alternative employment and prepared them for redundancy.
- I have established an entirely new service area (Extended Services), developing new team structures, and led local authority teams through three formal re-structures.
Performance Management
- I have a good understanding of, and demonstrable ability to use, performance frameworks and risk management arrangements to meet targets. I am accustomed to working to critical deadlines and supporting others to achieve them.
- I participated in several area based reviews and successfully led a number of teams through formal inspections.
Communications
- I have led on all aspects of public communication including the development of dedicated websites, the production of newsletters, giving press/radio interviews, and leading open public meetings.
- I have spoken at a number of local, regional and national conferences including a joint LGA and Home Office conference at which Tony Blair gave the keynote address.
